In the middle of October 2018 (17th – 24th), the training cum study tour program on “Construction and Maintenance of Rural/Feeder Roads under Greater Cumilla District Important Rural Infrastructure Development Project (3rd Phase)” was conducted in Vietnam and Korea by the Asian Institute of Technology in Vietnam for 12 high level officials from Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), Local Government Division, the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
The training was designed to help participants to understand construction techniques followed by the national road departments/ transportation authorities of Vietnam and Korea to control quality of construction works, ensure safety measures during construction and particular attention to the construction of road structures on soft and alluvial soil.
There were workshops conducted in Vietnam (AIT-VN) and Korea with participation of experts to share techniques and discuss about the system and management experiences in related field with the lessons learnt from Vietnam and Korea. Some field visits were also carried out and brought them a real overview on implementation, maintenance of rural and feeder roads especially in the special condition like soft soil with new technologies, throughout the visit to Tan Vu Lach Huyen Project in Hai Phong city (Vietnam) that was applying jet grouting technology and the meeting, site visit to KYERYOUNG.
Upon the training’s conclusion, the participants obtained a great overview of rural/feeder roads construction and maintenance in both countries, and then could make a considerable application into similar construction projects in Bangladesh.
The training cum study visit program was well conducted with satisfactory program organization and management that gained participants’ widely appreciation in maximum benefit from program. Overall, the objectives and expectation of the program were met; the participants had a good opportunity of sharing and learning experience, new techniques and ideas in rural/feeder roads management in Vietnam and Korea.
