The training cum study tour program on “Climate Change Implication on Water Resource Management” successful completed

From 19th – 25th Nov 2018, the Asian Institute of Technology in Vietnam has delivered successfully the training cum study tour program on “Climate Change Implication on Water Resource Management” in Vietnam for 10 high level officials from Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment (MMDE), the Government of Sri Lanka.

The training’s purposes are to exposure and develop knowledge, attitude, skills and efficiency on climate change implication on water resource management, to learn about the latest approaches, inventions and strategies related to program theme. Based on that, the participants could have comparative snapshot between Vietnam and Sri Lanka as well as to develop specific and specialized knowledge and practical understanding which are appropriate application for the Sri Lanka context.

The lectures and site visits were conducted in parallel with the involvement of key experts and guest speakers from relevant agencies and organizations in Vietnam such as: Research Center for Climate Change – Vietnam Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate; Institute for Water and Environment; the rural area affected by climate change in Quang Ninh Province. Lots of discussions and experiences sharing were carried out on the assessment of impacts, risks, vulnerability, mitigation measures to climate change; economic impacts and opportunities also brought by climate change in Vietnam and sustainable planning, management and use of land and water resource in climate condition, management of exploitation and protection of irrigation works to prevent drought, desertification, and adapt to climate change, ensure the water supply for agriculture in climate change.

Upon the training program’s completion, the training program was successfully completed with high satisfaction from all participants. The AIT-VN delivered service and training quality included professional arrangements that were very impressive and positively evaluated. The participants had chance to link all the knowledge gained to consider the lesson learnt for similar situation in their country.
