“Local Government & Community Participation in Rural Infrastructure Development” training program for delegation from Local Government Engineering Department, the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh
During 8th – 15th Oct 2018, the training cum study tour program on “Local Government & Community Participation in Rural Infrastructure Development” was conducted in Vietnam and Malaysia by the Asian Institute of Technology in Vietnam for 12 high level officials from Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), Local Government Division, the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
The training was designed to provide concepts and approaches for rural infrastructure development with local government and community participation in rural areas of Vietnam and Malaysia. The program platform is to be delivered in term of workshop lecture and field visits with the experience sharing and discussion with key experts from agencies and institutions in Vietnam and Malaysia.
Besides the lectures, the participants had chance to link all the knowledge gained to the context in Bangladesh through the visit, meeting with local authority in Nam Dinh Province (Vietnam) for observing and discussing on the successful implementation of the rural infrastructure development project and an outskirt area outside KUL to see the participation of government and community on maintenance and operation of the rural roads. The visits gave the participants an inspiration on institutions and stakeholders’ participation in rural infrastructure development in Vietnam and Malaysia, and then could make a lesson learnt for the similar projects in Bangladesh.
The training was successful in term of its relevance to the context of Bangladesh and its quality of training delivery by high invited experts and professionals in the related area of rural infrastructure development. The participants highly appreciated AIT-VN services and gave very positive remarks to the organizer.
