From 22nd to 26th April 2019, at the Asian Institute of Technology in Vietnam, the Vietnam Learning Center on Environmental and Social Sustainability (LC) organized successfully the training course on Environmental and Social Impact Assessment.
Actively participated in the training course were 12 participants come from Myanmar, Indonesia and Bangladesh. They are now associate safeguard analyst, environmental consultants and managements, ecology consultants, biodiversity who has experience in related fields of E Guard Environmental Services Co., Ltd. PT Green Corp and Sustainable Environment Myanmar Co., Ltd.
The training course contained four and a half indoor-training at AIT-VN’s campus and a half day of field visit at Hanoi Metro Project (Line 3: Nhon – Hanoi Railway Station). During the training course, participants could understand better about the WB’s project cycle and why conduct ESIA; understand more Vietnam’s and donor policies and requirements for ESIA, screening and scoping, impact analysis, evaluation impact significance, cumulative impact assessment, mitigation and impact management, public involvement, consultation and disclosure in ESIA, role of PMU and relationship with other stakeholders, quality control tools of ESIA. The course was facilitated by a competent training team who encouraged the participants to actively raise and discuss issues or problems they face in the ESIA process at work; share ideas and find solutions for these issues. The participatory learning approach and active learning methods were applied in all training activities at the very beginning to the end of the program which worked very well and greatly contributed to the satisfaction of the class members.
In general, the attractive course design and structure, interactive learning approach, active involvement of participants and professionalism and enthusiasm of the training team contributed to the great success of the training program.
