Exposure Visit and Knowledge Sharing Program on “City Resilience, Solid Waste Management and Faecal Sludge Management”

From 13th to 19th Feb 2019, the Asian Institute of Technology in Vietnam successfully organized the training cum study tour program on “City Resilience, Solid Waste Management, Faecal Sludge Management” for 11 senior officers from Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

The purpose of the training was to provide participants with scenarios, consequences and impact of climate change on urban infrastructure, the best practices, related to city resilience, solid waste management and faecal sludge management in Vietnam, help them to observe the activities related to k.a.s.e. (knowledge, attitude, skills, efficiency) and to get lesson learnt related to development of city resilience, solid waste management and faecal sludge management from Vietnam context.

It was designed on the platform of one day classroom-based session with the contents focusing on city resilience, solid waste management and faecal sludge management in Vietnam. The remaining activities were conducted through several field visits in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city which underlined on sharing experiences and exchanging ideas between Bangladesh officers with related agencies in Vietnam such as: Minh Phuc Green Environment Joint Stock Company in Hai Duong province, The Hanoi Environmental Protection Agency (Hanoi EPA)  under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) in Hanoi, the office of the Management Board Project “Management of the Solid and Feacal Sludge of the Ho Chi Minh City”and followed by Field visit to City Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe Project Site. Throughout these visits, the most updated technologies, solid waste management business, challenges and achievements in solid waste management, policy and community support programs in urban solid waste management in the North and the South of Vietnam were introduced to participants. That interesting experiences gained throughout the training program brought the participants a closer look on city resilience, solid waste management and faecal sludge management of Vietnam context. All of them were impressed by what they experienced in the Vietnam and link to what they would do in Bangladesh, especially considering the cooperation between Vietnam and Bangladesh on exchange the technologies on solid waste and faecal sludge treatment and management that help to improve city resilience.

After 7 successful training days, the quality of training delivered by AIT-VN are highly evaluated in both services and professional arrangement owing to its impression and possibility of city resilience, solid waste management and faecal sludge management in Bangladesh.
