AIT-VN signed MOU with the Tra Vinh University

On 21 February 2017, the Asian Institute of Technology in Vietnam (AITVN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) with the Tra Vinh University (TVU) in Tra Vinh. The two parties have agreed to foster cooperation in research, training and education development.

Following up the visit to Mekong Delta in September 2016, the Asian Institute of Technology in Vietnam proceeded to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) with the Tra Vinh University on 21/2/2017 in Tra Vinh province. The purpose of the MoU is to reinforce the strategic cooperation between AITVN and TVU for joint professional training and research to serve the human resource development needs of the Mekong Delta Region in general and Tra Vinh province in particular. Preference will be given to the fields of Technology, Environmental Engineering and Management, Agriculture, Fisheries, Climate Change, Business and Development which are considered as strong areas of interest of both AITVN and TVU. The discussion of cooperation took place during the visit in September 2016 and on this basis, AITVN and TVU have reached the consensus and signed the MOU.

Dr. Fredric William Swierczek, Director of AITVN and Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Vice Rector of Tra Vinh Univerisity (TVU) signed the MOU in presence of Dr. Truong Van Hieu, Director of Center for Climate Change Adaptation Research and Community Development of TVU, Dr. Lam Thai Hung, Dean of Agriculture and Aquaculture Department (TVU), Dr. Pham Kim Long, Head of Science and Technology Section (TVU), Dr. Diep Thanh Tung, Dean of Law Economics Department, Ms. Chau Thi Hoang Hoa, Associate Head of International Cooperation and Project Development Section (TVU) and Prof. Nguyen Cong Thanh, Advisor of Climate Change Initiatives (AITVN) and Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Hoa, Deputy Director of AITVN.


AIT Vietnam (AIT-VN, former AITCV) was established in 1993 under the agreement between the Government of Vietnam represented by the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, Thailand. Tra Vinh University (TVU) is a public university established in Tra Vinh following the Decision No. 141/QĐ/2006-TTg dated on June 19th, 2006 by the Prime Minister. TVU is a public university and operates under a multi-level, multi-disciplinary, multi-training method model. Through cooperation with government services, unions, socio-economic associations, institutes, businesses, recruiters, workers, and international associations, the university carries out its responsibilities such as training human resources with high quality, research and application, and providing services and jobs for people in the province and the surrounding area. TVU conducts fundamental and applied scientific research, targeting the needs of the region and national communities. TVU offers programs leading to degrees in Bachelors, Masters, and PhDs in various fields with a focus on high quality graduates to serve the greater societal needs. The university has to report to and be directly responsible for its operation to the managing unit – Tra Vinh People’s Committee and the Ministry of Training and Education (MOET).
