During 6th – 16th July 2018, the training cum study tour program on “Rural Road Management in Coastal Region” was conducted in Vietnam and Korea by the Asian Institute of Technology in Vietnam for 12 high level officials from Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), Local Government Division, the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
The training was designed for participants to exchange ideas, acquire knowledge and skills on management of roads in rural areas, especially the coastal regions as well as considering its environmental and climate change aspects. There were workshops conducted in Vietnam (AIT-VN) and Korea (from Korea National University of Transportation) with participation of experts from both countries to share and discuss about the system and management experiences in related field with the lessons learnt.
Besides the lectures, the program delivered some field visits that brought them a real overview on implementation of rural roads involving the community and rural roads funding and local resource mobilization focusing on cost-effective design shared by People’s Committee of Quang Yen – Quang Ninh province (Vietnam) and Korea Expressway corporation transportation center (Korea). Upon the training’s conclusion, the participants obtained a different overview of rural road management in coastal region in both countries, and then could make a considerable application into similar construction projects in Bangladesh.
The training cum study visit program was well conducted with satisfactory program organization and management that gained participants’ widely appreciation in maximum benefit from program. Overall, the objectives and expectation of the program were met; the participants had a good opportunity of sharing and learning experience, new techniques and ideas in rural road management in Vietnam and Korea.
