Vietnam Learning Center on Environmental and Social Sustainability (LC)

Following the successful organization of roll-out courses on Environment Safeguards which were offered by the Learning Center to participants from regional countries in 2016 and 2017, the LC has developed a new roll out course on Effective Environment Management in Construction. The course was conducted from 15 to 17 November, 2017 at AITVN premise in Ho Chi Minh City.

The overall objective of the training course is to build capacity for staffers in the project implementation units (PIUs) of infrastructure development projects who are responsible for environmental safeguards.

Specifically, the objectives of the course are thus to help the PIU environment staff responsible for implementing EMPs to have a better understanding of what should be done, when, how and by whom; to have the ability to incorporate environmental management requirements into tender and contract documents; and to have the ability to prepare and assess a site-specific environmental management plan (SEMP) so that construction workers can have a clear picture of what is required on the ground.

With these attractive objectives, the training program withdrew the participants from different countries in the region, including Myanmar, Arab Saudi and Indonesia. The participatory learning approach methods were applied in all training activities at the very beginning to the end of the program which worked very well and greatly contributed to the satisfaction of the class members. Especially, the well-designed field visit in Metro Line 1 Project at Ba Son station on the third day of the training course was highly appreciated by participants because it enabled them to reflect and apply the theory on EEMC in the real practice.

Generally, the good combination of the training team members, the well-designed training program and the active participation of all class members helped AITVN to achieve the program objectives. Participants were very much satisfied with the program and highly evaluated the course with the overall score of 8.0 above 10.
