AIT Viet Nam Showcases Vision for Ethical AI and Inclusive Digital Education at Asian Leadership Conference in Korea

Seoul, South Korea – May 22, 2025

At the prestigious 2025 Asian Leadership Conference (ALC) hosted by The Chosun Ilbo in Seoul from May 21 to 22, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Vang, Senior Advisor to the Asian Institute of Technology in Viet Nam (AIT Viet Nam) and former President of Hanoi University, delivered a compelling presentation on AIT’s strategic approach to integrating digital transformation and ethical artificial intelligence (AI) into higher education.

The conference, which gathered policymakers, academic leaders, and innovators from across Asia and beyond, served as a platform for AIT Viet Nam to share its commitment to leveraging technology not merely for progress, but as a catalyst for inclusion, sustainability, and societal good.

A Future-Ready Mindset in the Age of AI

In his presentation, Dr. Vang emphasized that the most significant transformation in higher education today goes beyond technology adoption – it lies in cultivating a future-ready mindset.

“At AIT, we see technology not just as a means to keep up with global change, but as a way to lead it – with purpose, responsibility, and impact.” Dr. Vang said.

While AI, data analytics, and digital learning platforms are transforming classrooms, research, and campus operations, these opportunities also bring critical challenges: digital inequality, cybersecurity risks, academic integrity concerns, and the need for continuous faculty upskilling.

Education as an Agent of Ethical Change

Dr. Vang reaffirmed AIT’s belief that educational institutions must act as ethical stewards of technology. He outlined AIT’s twofold mission:

  1. To prepare ethical AI leaders who understand the social and environmental implications of technology and apply it responsibly.
  2. To drive research and innovation that addresses real-world challenges, particularly those facing the region.

“Educational institutions today must be more than places of learning. We must be agents of change,” he asserted. “And we must ensure that technologies like AI are inclusive, transparent, and built for the public good.”

Strategic Initiatives: AI for Human-Centered Impact

As an example of this mission in action, Dr. Vang spotlighted AIT’s major AI initiatives:

  • In 2018, AIT launched the AI Centre, focused on developing intelligent systems using state-of-the-art machine learning and deep learning technologies.
  • By 2020, AIT had partnered with the Erasmus+ DS&AI consortium – a collaboration with 15 universities across Europe and Asia – to offer graduate programs in Data Science and AI, expanding access to cutting-edge digital education across the region.

These initiatives reflect AIT’s belief that AI should be harnessed not just for technical progress, but to promote social resilience, sustainability, and meaningful human impact.

Building a Smarter, More Inclusive Future

Dr. Vang concluded his presentation with a powerful message:

“When AI is guided by purpose – and education is guided by values – we do not just build smarter systems. We build a smarter, more inclusive future.”

AIT’s vision aligns closely with the theme of the 2025 Asian Leadership Conference – “The Rise of Nations: Pathways to Greater Prosperity” – highlighting the vital role that universities can play in leading a responsible digital transformation that benefits all.
