Workshop on “Awareness Raising on Climate Change Adaptation for the Community” held on 25/5/2017 in Tra Vinh province

In cooperation with Tra Vinh University, the Asian Institute of Technology in Vietnam (AITVN) successfully organized a Workshop on “Awareness Raising on Climate Change Adaptation for the Community” in Tra Vinh University. The workshop has attracted more than 150 delegates from many functional departments, mass organizations, scientists and university students in the region.

Opening remarks by Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung – Vice Rector of Tra Vinh Universtity – said: Climate Change has created many challenges for people living in rural areas, extreme weather, temperature and precipitation. Given such great impacts on the community, Mekong Delta is the typical affected.

This workshop is an opportunity for delegates working in the fields of agriculture, forestry, fisheries, horticulture and livestock together with the local policy makers to discuss directly with top experts in the field of climate change adaptation with specific challenges and solutions to clarify in the current climate change response strategy, added by Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Hoa – AITVN Deputy Director.

Climate change issues of particular concern should include (i) to enhance the knowledge and awareness of the community on climate change and adaptation measures; (ii) to provide opportunities for participants to share practical experiences on climate change adaptation; (iii) to assist local residents in accessing simple tools to forecast and identify climate change according to community priorities and needs.

Through the workshop, AIT in Vietnam and Tra Vinh University will synthesize experts’ opinions and continue to assist the local residents in identifying appropriate solutions for climate change according to the priorities and needs of the community.
